Thanks to all of you who worked so hard on my campaign for county commissioner.
Those of you who voted for me, thank you for your faith and confidence in my abilities to contribute to a better Forsyth County. The three issues that were before us during the campaign remain. We must have a robust economic engine underwritten by appropriate commerce in order to reduce our property taxes from the current 29% of revenue to something lower. SPLOST VI dollars must be spent as the committee designated to address some of our traffic issues throughout all of Forsyth County. And in the southern part of the county, great care and attention must be applied to Peachtree Parkway to prevent over commercialization of a nature that will inhibit effective north-south travel and degrade the communities surrounding this highway. The Peachtree Parkway Overlay in itself is insufficient to accomplish this, there must be oversight and management to craft the look and feel Forsyth County should have in this part of the county.
Volunteers, I hope you will take a moment to reflect back on the things we did as a low-budget crowd of amateur political hacks, wild-eyed sign wavers, and feet-on-the-street campaigners with a mission. While things did not turn out as we wanted, I hope you feel that the experience was worthwhile and new friendships were made; I certainly feel that way, and am more appreciatiative than I can express to all of you for giving so much of your summer to this endeavor. As you will see below, you aren't quite finished yet though.
In April, I made the only specific committment of my campaign, and that was to address and correct several issues regarding domestic animals in our county, specifically initiate anti-tethering rules and divert resources and change policy that would improve Forsyth County's standing from one of the highest kill-rate counties in Georgia to at least the mid-point, not that there is any great pride at that accomplishment. This remains something that I will put some energy into as a private citizen.
Voters and volunteers, there is still work to be done. I have listened closely to the candidates in District 5 that are in a runoff in 3 weeks, and clearly see that Jim Boff is the candidate with both the experience, judgment and perspective to be a county commissioner. Volunteers, I ask you to now spend what's left of the summer asking your friends, neighbors and anyone who will listen to please go back to the polls one more time on August 5th and vote for Jim as Forsyth County Commissioner. Voters, there is a page on this website that will give you concise reasons why, and you can go to his site at www.jimboff.com for more detail.
Thanks everyone.
